Gullit too interested in bars and discos, say club (Reuters)

MOSCOW, June 14 (Reuters) - Former World Player of the Year Ruud Gullit is more interested in bars and discos than getting to grips with Terek Grozny’s poor league position and has one game to save his job as coach, the team said.

The Dutchman, who signed on at the Chechen team at the start of the year, was told on the Russian Premier League club’s website (www.fc-terek.ru) that he would be fired if they did not win on Tuesday at Ankar Perm.

The leader of Russia’s volatile, Muslim Chechnya region, Ramzan Kadyrov, is the president of Terek, who languish 14th in the 16-team league.

“Today we must acknowledge that Gullit has not justified the hopes of the club’s leadership,” the statement said, adding that he refused to accept any blame for poor performances.

Instead of rolling up his sleeves and working to improve the team’s league position, Gullit was “thinking about bars and discotheques,” it added.

“Considering all this, Ramzan Kadyrov is presenting Ruud Gullit with the task of bringing back three points from Perm. In the event of the opposite outcome, Gullit will be dismissed from the position of head coach.”

When Gullit was signed to an 18-month contract, Kadyrov said his task was to help the club qualify for European competition at the end of the 2011-2012 season. Terek finished 12th last year. (Reporting by Steve Gutterman; Editing by Peter Rutherford)
